This initiative provides support for 20 doctoral students whose offers from top U.S. schools have been rescinded or who are reconsidering their acceptance to a U.S. school for the 2025/26 academic year. The recruitment initiative will provide 20 selected candidates: - Minimum $40,000 CAD annually for four years of study - A fast-track admission process and extended admissions deadlines Student Eligibility The initiative is open to all students—American, Canadian, or international—who have had an offer rescinded or are reconsidering an offer to study at the doctoral level at a top U.S. university or college, if all the following criteria are met: - Demonstrate a letter of admission for doctoral studies from a top 100 U.S. university or college (as ranked by QS Rankings or Times Higher Education) in an equivalent field, with a funding package. - Secure a commitment of supervision from a faculty supervisor at Queen’s. - Meet the admission requirements to a Queen’s program. Procedures Prospective students may be identified one of two ways. 1. A Queen’s faculty member may identify a prospective student who meets the above criteria via their own professional network; or 2. A student may approach a Queen’s faculty member for supervision. In either case, the prospective student must complete the SGSPA intake form. In this form, students will be required to identify their intended program of study, proposed supervisor, and submit their previous offer letter and funding commitment letter from a US institution. A member of the SGSPA will assess intake forms and verify supervision commitment and funding commitments by supervisor and department. If approved, the student will be invited to complete a full application for program adjudication and selection. Required Funding Commitment Selected students will receive $40,000 CAD funding commitment for each of four years of study comprised of $20,000 central funding, and $20,000 departmental and supervisor funding. Departmental and supervisor funding can include a combination of non-employment income (e.g., Graduate Research Fellowship from the supervisor) and employment income (e.g., RA, TA, TF). If departments choose to offer a funding commitment of more than $40,000, additional funding will come from the department or supervisor.
